Submit to ‘Stories from the Field’

I’m currently producing Stories from the Field, a compilation album for the Clan Analogue label, and I’m pleased to announce that we’ve extended the submission deadline for this compilation which explores the creative possibilities of field recordings in music-making. The new deadline is now March 14, 2025, giving contributors extra time to fully engage with their sonic environments and refine their pieces.

This album is an opportunity for artists to experiment with transforming everyday sounds into structured compositions. Whether your recordings come from your home, workplace, a natural setting, or an urban environment, they will serve as the foundation for your creative process.

Turning Stories from the Field into Music

Stories from the Field challenges artists to use only field recordings—without synthesisers or traditional instruments—to create compelling musical pieces. Techniques such as sampling, granular synthesis, sequencing, and tape manipulation are all encouraged to reshape and repurpose the sounds into an engaging composition.

Capturing a Sense of Place

While we are looking for fully formed musical tracks, the sense of place should remain central to your work. Your submission should reflect the character and atmosphere of the locations where your sounds were recorded, creating an immersive listening experience.

Additional Visual Documentation: Video & Photography

Artists can also submit video or photographic documentation to accompany their tracks. Whether through video art, documentary footage, or still images, these visual elements can add further context to your piece and help tell the story of your sonic environment.

Submission Guidelines

  • Extended Deadline: March 14, 2025
  • Maximum Track Duration: 6 minutes
  • Accepted Audio Formats: WAV or AIFF
  • Additional Materials: A brief description of the recording locations, production techniques used, and any supporting visual documentation (photos or video)
